In broad daylight...
I. Click here to READ first Genesis 19.
II. One thing the Bible teaches: (The angels of the Lord told Lot that they were about to destroy the cities in which he and his family were living...)
15 As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.” 16 But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city... 22 Escape there quickly...
III. Reflection
* Questions: Where was the sense of urgency in the warning?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah was not done secretly or stealthily. It was done in broad daylight for all eyes to see. Unless the Lord rescued them, no one could have escaped even though they saw the sulfur fire was raining down. I thank You for taking me to this point to remind me that even the angels who were responsible for the destruction of the cities were treating the situation urgently: the angels "urged Lot", the angels "seized" them and brought them out, one of the angels commanded them to "escape quickly". O God! The day when You will judge this world with burning fire is also coming soon (2 Peter 3:10). May my fear of it cause me to revere You more seriously and live more rightly. May my fear of it cause me to be genuinely urgent in spreading the Good News that those who believe in Jesus the Savior will be saved from the fire, not through fire. Amen
