Two questions One answer...
I. Click here to READ first Genesis 16.
II. One thing the Bible teaches: (at this time, Hagar was pregnant through a setup by Sarai. As a result of the pregnancy, the barren Sarai, being looked upon with contempt, and empowered by her husband Abram, mistreated Hagar so harshly that she fled from her...)
7 The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from my mistress Sarai.”
III. Reflection
* Questions: How many questions did the angel of the Lord ask Hagar? Why did she answer only one?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God: I thank You for showing me that Your angel asked Hagar two questions: "Where have you come from and where are you going?" Hagar answered only one: "I am fleeing from my mistress Sarai." I thank You for taking me to this point to let me know that it wasn't that Hagar was disrespectful to You. She truly did not know what was next in her life at that time when the whole world around her mistreated her, abandoned her, and cared nothing about her. I thank You, Lord, for showing me that You understood her so well that You did not press her for the missing answer. You knew she had no place to go. You only gave her a chance to confirm that for herself and come to the realization that obeying Your direction then was the best for her and her unborn child.
O God! Please help me to be like You to not press someone for an answer about something when she or he has no answer. Help me to be gracious and understanding. Amen
