II. One thing the Bible teaches:
1 Now the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, 2 “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When anyone of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or the flock. 3 If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without defect; he shall offer it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, so that he may be accepted before the Lord. 4 And he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so that it may be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf. (NASB)
III. Reflection
* Questions: Does the word "anyone" discriminate (old from young, rich from poor, master from slave, saint from sinner)?
IV. Application:
Dear Lord God, I thank You for teaching me that You intended for anyone to be able to bring an offering to You—anyone, as in any person—regardless of the person's background, as long as he or she needs atonement. Naturally, the burnt offering process required a priest, but the volitional participation of the person offering would be an important requirement. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking me to this point to remind me of the crucifixion that You suffered. It has been done for anyone who needs forgiveness. Thank You, Lord Jesus! Although Your forgiveness is freely given, salvation can only be accomplished when there is willful and happy participation from the one admitting sins, repenting from sins, and accepting the gift of forgiveness for the sins involved (Jn 19:28-30; Jn 1:12). O Lord! I pray for certain readers to willfully participate in Your salvation by trusting and believing in You to have their sins forgiven and their souls redeemed. Today. Amen
